Why do I need to learn foreign languages?
Well, there are many and different answers to that question but all of them show that learning a language can only prove to be (only) beneficial for you. The first and maybe the most important in my personal opinion is that languages open your mind to new cultures, new ways of thinking and understanding the world around you. It may sound a little too much, but take a second and think about it. Every country or group of people that speaks a certain language has always a certain code of communication that is hidden in some way within the language. They have also different traditions and ways of perceiving the world around them. I believe I should mention something I read recently about languages, which was written by George Steiner, he wrote that every time a language disappears in one or another way from the world map, a whole world dies along.
The second and more practical reason is that it's a great way to enrich your CV whatever is the job you are doing or that you intend to do. From a simple salesman or waiter to top executives an extra language means maybe extra cash or even more chances for promotion. I'll give you an example, say you work as a secretary in a company that has commercial relations with China, and you happen to know chinese. Compare yourself to other co-workers of yours who wouldn't know chinese in that company!!!Obviously you would be in a much better position than they would. But that doesn't mean that you will have to wait until such a job or opportunity knocks your door. Prepare yourself so when it comes along you'll grasp it!!!
I've read many people's stories of how they met their soulmate through language-learning!!!Incredible maybe....but language learning may prove to be a great way of meeting new people, making new friends, expanding your social circle and why not meet your soulmate!!!Remember that people always feel closer to you if you speak their language...and you will gain their favour and their hearts!!!Imagine for example how would you behave, or behave when a foreigner tries to speaks your language....you try to help him or her and you see him or her with friendlness. Am I wrong???
Last but not least I think it's a great way to spend your time productively instead of sitting in front of the tv and get bored....If you like reading and studying language learning is definitely for you!!!
And the most exciting part of all is that with the internet and all the information in here you can study alone, with ebooks, or special one to one programmes or attend an online class.
Recently I've created a blog to show my love to learning (in general, including languages) and reading that has to do with ebooks, free ebooks, great offers, cool websites and many more I'll be glad to see you there and exchange with you opinions and knowledge. My blog is called "ebook seekers" at http://ebookseekers.blogspot.com/ .
